Pulmonary rehabilitation refers to a carefully formulated programme of exercise and support designed to help improve the wellbeing of patients with COPD. During pulmonary rehabilitation, your doctor will assess your medical history and help you to set exercise goals best suited to your needs.
In order to formulate your pulmonary rehabilitation plan, your doctor will ask you to walk while they monitor your heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen level. Your doctor will also teach you breathing techniques, and advise you of any medications you might need. You will also learn how to best manage shortness of breath and other symptoms as you complete your daily activities.
